The windows overlook the Centennial Garden, which feature the boxwood topiary carved in the Greek letters of "Delta" and "Zeta" and the Centennial Wall. Plaques can be purchased for a gift of $5,000 to the Delta Zeta Foundation, which will then be placed on the wall. Through the windows and to the left of the Garden stands the Lucile Crowell Cooks Conference Center.

In celebration of Delta Zeta's leaders, this room features a permanent exhibit to showcase Delta Zeta Women of Achievement.  The exhibit is prominently located on the first floor in the main entry, and in the library and small conference room, and features display cabinets containing photos, histories and memorabilia. Comfortable seating is available to encourage guests to spend time developing an appreciation for Delta Zeta's rich history and learning about the women who perpetuated the Founders' dream.   The décor and furnishings in the Women  of Achievement room, front library and Small Conference Room are respectful of the museum's traditional style, but also enhance the guest's experience.

Simering, Indiana - Epsilon, was fascinated with the caryatides, the sculptured female figures serving as ornamental support in place of columns in Greek architecture. A famous example is the Porch of the Maidens, where six of the statues are part of the Erechtheum Temple built in 405 B.C. in Athens. She researched the subject and felt that the figures symbolized Delta Zeta's six Founders and the beauty and strength of young womanhood. Ruth donated the first six statues that were presented at the 1960 National Convention. She was also responsible for designing a new flag that was presented at the Golden Anniversary National Convention in 1952. It featured a more accurate representation of Sorority ideals.

A psychiatric social worker, Ruth served in Australia with the Red Cross during World War II. After she retired, she studied the history and activities of fraternity work. She joined the Flame Eternal in 1983.

Delta Zeta Creed http://museum.deltazeta.org/virtualtour/deltazetacreed The Delta Zeta Creed was written and presented to the National Council in 1939 by Dorothy Mumford Williams, Adelphi - Alpha Zeta, and accepted, becoming a life pattern for every Delta Zeta woman and a memorial to her. Dorothy Williams was a nationally acclaimed poet, an artist, and a teacher. Her sense of beauty and poetry was expressed in lyrics, sonnets, and poetic vehicles.
Her artistic gifts also found expression through her painting, gaining critical distinction in that media as well. As Delta Zeta's National Ritual Chairman, she was responsible for some of the ritualistic lyrics. She was named Delta Zeta Woman of the Year posthumously in 1982.

A white gate with a Roman lamp carved in the wood invites visitors to stroll inside. Across a bricked pathway into the Centennial Garden, the names of donors who gave to the Centennial Campaign are carved in the bricks. With donations of $250 or more, the chapter's Greek name is placed on a brick in the Centennial Walk. A donation of $5,000 or more places an engraved brass plaque with the chapter's Greek name on the Centennial Wall. Individual donors can make the same contributions and be recognized in the same way.

Further down the path, a beautiful trellis stretches across the rear of the Garden, below which an inviting bench allows visitors to look over the exquisite landscaping and flowers in bloom.

The Delta Zeta Foundation continues to welcome donations to add engraved bricks and plaques to the pathway and Wall of Donors. The Centennial Garden and the Delta Zeta Foundation preserve the past while laying the path for the future.

The wallpaper border includes rosemary in its pattern and coordinates with the decor of the room. A small scale secretary, a emigre chair and an armoire in museum finish complete the suite.

The needlepoint on the wall was a labor of love donated by Oklahoma native Gwen Moss McKeeman, Northeastern State (OK) - Delta Phi, Past National Officer, former Editor of The Lamp.

The National Convention is the governing body of the Sorority. According to the Constitution: "the National Convention shall meet biennially at a time and place specified by National Council except during a period of national emergency when it may be postponed by the National Council."

Only six delegates attended the first National Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana in 1910 and were instrumental in the creation of The LAMP and the Delta Zeta Songbook. At the Convention in 1914, delegates drafted the National Constitution and standardized the ritual.

These early conventions were the first time many Delta Zeta members were able to connect with sisters outside of their local chapter, and the number of members attending convention grew steadily.

Delta Zeta National Conventions have changed since their beginning, but one thing remains the same: members connect with other Delta Zetas from all around the world at the National Convention.

The 1922 National Convention voted to employ a full-time secretary. The first national headquarters was opened in Muncie, Indiana with Grace Mason, Indiana - Epsilon, as the first Executive Secretary.

The office moved again with the National President to San Antonio in 1928, where Irene Boughton, Iowa - Iota, served as Executive Secretary. Later, the office moved to Cincinnati, Ohio due to the location of Margaret Huenefeld Pease, Cincinnati - Xi, National President.

In 1969, National Headquarters moved to Columbus, Ohio, with Betty Heusch Agler, Cincinnati - Xi, as Executive Secretary. In 1982, Delta Zeta leaders inaugurated a campaign to raise funds to restore a historic residence in Oxford, Ohio, that would become the home of Delta Zeta's National Historical Museum and Headquarters. Cynthia Winslow Menges, Miami (OH) - Alpha, was hired as National Headquarters Administrator. On October 22-23, 1983, Delta Zeta welcomed Sorority members and friends to the beautifully restored Victorian mansion that is Delta Zeta's permanent home.

Symbols and Insignia Cabinet http://museum.deltazeta.org/virtualtour/symbolsandinsigniacabinet
Delta Zeta Badge
From our founding to the present, the Badge has changed very little from the original one designed by the Founders. Founder Alfa Lloyd Hayes' Badge is on display in this cabinet. The original Badge has no pearls, and shows a variation in the design of the column and the size and location of the pearls.

New Member Pin
The standard New Member pin of Delta Zeta is a diamond shape, black enamel, gilt edge and bearing the Roman Lamp in gold. New Member pins are used on some campuses from the earliest moments of pledging, while on other campuses pledge ribbons in the colors of the Sorority are worn for a few days. Both are binding. The early pins were long stick-pins and the use of the regular brooch-clasp came later.

National President's Badge
The National President's Badge is identical to that of each Delta Zeta initiate, except for the addition of diamonds in the six wings. The Badge is a traveling one and is handed to the incoming President at the time of her installation.

This cabinet chronicles Delta Zeta's significant anniversaries and Delta Zeta's history and expansion up through the year 2002, and contains mementoes from those milestones.

The Silver Anniversary of the Sorority in 1927 was marked with the gift to Miami University of the Memorial Sun Dial, designed by Iva Stock Smith, Miami (OH) - Alpha. By this time, Delta Zeta had 25 college chapters and 20 alumnae chapters. The official Silver Anniversary celebration took place at the National Convention in 1928, with Founders Julia Bishop Coleman, Mary Collins Galbraith, Mabelle Minton Hagemann and Anne Simmons Friedline receiving silver candlesticks to honor the occasion.

The 50th anniversary in 1952 saw Delta Zeta's history chronicled in two special anniversary issues of The LAMP. The three living Founders, Alfa Lloyd Hayes, Julia Bishop Coleman and Mary Collins Galbraith became the first members of the Order of the Golden Rose in recognition of 50 years of membership, which they received at the Golden Jubilee National Convention.

The Diamond Jubilee, marking the 75th anniversary of the Sorority, was celebrated one year after the first Greek organization founded in the United States, Phi Beta Kappa, celebrated its bicentennial in 1976. At the 1977 National Convention, delegates visited Miami University and the surrounding Oxford, Ohio area to commemorate the Sorority's founding.

In 2002, Delta Zeta celebrated 100 years of sisterhood on Miami University's campus for the Centennial Convention and Founders Day. The Centennial Year, October 24, 2001-2002, was marked with Delta Zeta members around the world honoring their pledge to enrich their campuses and communities with special gifts and service projects.
