Three years after women were admitted to Miami University, Elizabeth Hamilton was named its Dean of Women. In 1943, as a memorial to Delta Zeta's Founders, a portrait of Miss Hamilton was presented to Miami. Since 1902, she had been loved by Delta Zeta and had been an interested observer of the sorority's progress. Dean Hamilton graduated from Oxford College in 1895. She did graduate work in Greek at the University of Chicago and served as Dean of Women at Oxford College. She served Miami for forty years. Western College for Women conferred the honorary degree Doctor of Laws and Miami conferred the same upon her retirement. Her unique talent was keeping in touch with student thinking.
