Jean Liles was a home economics major who graduated in 1964 with numerous scholastic honors in her field of study. After graduation, she traveled for Delta Zeta as a Field Representative. She joined the staff of Southern Living magazine in 1972 and later became senior foods editor, supervising the development of the foods section. She authored many cookbooks and oversaw the recipe selection, tasting and evaluating over 3,500 recipes annually. In 1984, she was named the National Business Home Economist of the Year for "exhibiting outstanding individual achievement and contributing to her profession, employer and community." A year later she received the National Home Economics Association Leaders Award. In recognition of the Centennial of Women at the University of Alabama, she was named one of the top 31 female graduates for her contribution to society, personal achievement and success in her field.
