Shelley Levine Berkley, Nevada/Las Vegas - Iota Phi, began her political career as part of the student government at University of Nevada/Las Vegas, serving as the first female student body president. To further her education and better prepare for a career in politics, she earned a Juris Doctorate from the University of San Diego School of Law. She was elected to the Nevada State Assembly in 1982. In 1990, she was appointed and then elected to the University of Nevada Board of Regents. She continued in that position, helping manage a multi-million dollar budget for the University of Nevada system. Among her many activities, she produced and co-hosted the television talk show, “Legislature in Review.” Shelley was elected to the United States House of Representatives in 1998.
