Starting in her own kitchen, where she baked for family and friends, Sheila Howell Partin, Houston (TX) - Delta Theta, took a recipe given to her by a friend and developed it into a million dollar business. Since 1990, Sheila’s sourdough bread has become a well-known and desired product in the Houston area, other Texas cities, restaurants, schools, hospitals, country clubs and on Continental Airlines. Sheila Partin drew on marketing skills she developed as a sales representative for Xerox to make her business successful. She credits the success she has had from the support and encouragement of her husband, Robert, her three children and from her employees who have been committed to the business. Sheila’s bread does not compete with the mass-produced popular brands. She cuts no corners and uses only quality ingredients. She also donates the bread to organizations in the Houston area who serve the homeless. “My heart hurts to think that people and children here in Houston are hungry and I have bread. Many friends help me distribute breads,” she said. Shelia was the 1999 Woman of the Year.
