Margaret Staeger Woods

Margaret Staeger Woods, Washington State - Phi, was a noted lecturer and author in the field of creative education. A graduate of Washington State University, she also held a master’s degree from the University of Washington. Margaret was an associate professor at Seattle Pacific College, traveling and lecturing on creative education. She was president of the Elementary, Kindergarten, and Nursery Department of the National Education Association. In Seattle, she was known as the founder of the PTA-sponsored pre-school program in creative dramatics in public libraries, called “Let’s Pretend with Fours and Fives.” She was director of the Children’s Center at the Seattle’s World Fair and later of the Children’s Center at the New York Fair. Margaret’s philosophy for dealing with youngsters was courage, compassion, creativity, curiosity and confidence. She was the 1967 Woman of the Year.
