Helen Radke, Washington - Kappa, was a noted educator and president of the National School Board Association (NSBA) in 1962-1964. She had been the president of the Washington State Board of Education and the Board for Vocational Education. Nationally, Helen was an NSB director from 1957, serving as second vice president and vice president before being elected to the presidency. She was the second woman to be elected to that office in the 24-year history of the board. While serving on the Association Board, Helen was the chief author of NSBA’s Reference Manual on written school board policies, which was provided to school boards throughout the country. Helen was a delegate to the White House Conference on Education and served as a member of President Kennedy’s Panel of Consultation on Vocational Education.She was a member of the Governor’s Committee on Employment and Youth in Washington State. She was honored as Woman of the Year by the Washington State Federation of Business and Professional Women. Helen visited hundreds of schools throughout the United States and toured schools in Europe and Russia. She authored a book about the history of the Olympic Peninsula in Washington State entitled “Olympic Leaders: The Life and Times of the Websters of Port Angeles.”
