Mildred Wade Lenning

Mildred Wade Lenning, Colorado - Alpha Lambda, spent a lifetime giving generously of her time and effort in community service. While living in Schenectady, New York, she helped organize the library. In Scotia, New York, she assisted in forming the City Panhellenic. She resided with her husband and two children in Dayton, Ohio and it was there that she became a leader in public service and civic affairs. Mildred was outstanding in her work with the Community Chest. The Red Cross claimed her as a tireless worker serving on important committees and organizing all entertainment as chairman of the Camp and Hospital Committee. She was a nurse’s aide during World War II. Other city entities benefiting from Mildred’s efficiency in organization and love for helping others included the American Cancer Society, Travelers’ Aid, Aid to Dependent Children, Parent Teachers Association (PTA) and the Ohio Federation of Women’s Clubs. She was the 1953 Woman of the Year.
