Ruth Loyd Miller

As an attorney, Ruth Loyd Miller, Louisiana State - Sigma, was a tireless advocate for issues that supported women’s rights. She was the first woman to be elected chairman of the Board of Supervisors of the Louisiana State University Board of Supervisors system, serving on that board from 1974 to 1988. In contrast to her dedication and service in law and education, she had a well-established reputation as a researcher and writer on the authorship of works attributed to William Shakespeare. She edited and published four books in support of her theory that the works were written by Edward de Vere, the 17th Earl of Oxford, known as the Oxfordian theory of Shakespeare authorship. Her work gained interest the world over. She was the 1983 Woman of the Year.
